Brockway Elementary - Winston, Oregon

Students walking, playing and running outside Brockway Elementary School are greeted by native plants and ornamental trees. Working in collaboration with a wetland scientist, Schirmer + Associates envisioned a campus in harmony with its environmental context and one that provides safe, efficient and accessible pedestrian circulation. Two age-appropriate playgrounds were included in the master plan. Seeking to reflect the transition area between native wetlands and uplands, and to create a visual effect at the entry, native grasses and shrubs were utilized heavily throughout the site.
