Peace Health -
Ketchikan, Alaska
After
a variety of building alterations and circulation changes, many of the
exterior spaces of the Peace Health campus in Ketchikan, AK were left
unfinished and underutilized creating a series of disparate spaces. Strategic
planting design was utilized in order to heal the landscape, unify the
site, establish clear entries into the buildings, guide circulation, screen
unattractive areas, and improve the overall experience and aesthetic of
the site.
A small corner of the site overlooking the distant ocean was chosen for
an intimate healing garden. The garden frames the ocean views while embracing
the calming effects of the waves. A small water feature brings the essence
of the ocean into the garden and provides a tranquil element for visitors
to enjoy.
